The Houston Texans have won two games straight, putting their record now at 4-5, and more importantly, placing them in a tie for first place in the AFC South Division. But most importantly, at least for cornerback Johnathan Joseph, is combatting a foe that ended his father’s life just last year.
Joseph’s organization, the Johnathan Joseph Foundation, hosted a bowling event at Bowlmor Lanes called “Strike Out Cancer”, to raise money and awareness about lung cancer. Numerous players from the Texans joined him in the event, including J.J. Watt, Jeoffrey Pagan, DeAndre Hopkins, Jadeveon Clowney, Brian Cushing, Kareem Jackson, Kenny Hilliard and Alfred Blue. At Joseph’s side during the event was founder of Shadow Creek Ranch Dental Specialists, Dr. Corbet Ellison, along with several staff members. Shadow Creek Ranch Dental Specialists was a sponsor of the event.
“I just want to prevent others from having to deal with this disease,” Joseph told the Houston Chronicle in an interview. “I like to use where I’m at today, being successful in the National Football League, to use my name to raise awareness about it.”
Dr. Corbet and the dentists at Shadow Creek Ranch Dental Specialists feel the same way. Being a successful dental clinic in Pearland has allowed us to promote oral health around the city. We have been able to stop oral diseases, including cancer, from taking place through oral surgeries, preventative care, and through educating dental patients on the importance of having great oral hygiene.
Did you know that poor oral hygiene can lead to some of the biggest killers in the nation, not just cancer – but stroke, diabetes, and heart disease. Preventative care is a major part of keeping these diseases at bay.
You may not be in the NFL or even be a dental professional, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring awareness to some very important and life-threatening illnesses stemming from poor dental hygiene. Educating your friends and family members on the importance of brushing and flossing their teeth daily, as well as visiting their dentist consistently is imperative to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
If you are struggling with cavities in your teeth, bleeding gums, or any type of oral discomfort, then you should schedule an appointment with our dental office immediately. Don’t let these problems that can easily be treated become a larger problem that could affect, not just your mouth, but your entire body.
